Background
Until recently, General Practioners (GP’s) were obliged to ensure that their patients had access to a GP twenty-four hours a day.
This meant that outside normal surgery hours (Out-of-Hours or OoH) they had to be available to see their patients or make sure that another GP was available.
Over time many GPs grouped together into cooperatives to provide OoH cover across a wider area to reduce the burden on each individual GP. Read More
What do we do?
Call handling We have a dedicated call centre based at Chippenham. Experienced and carefully trained call handlers take calls from members of the public who feel they need to see a GP, out-of-hours. Call handlers have to deal with a wide range of calls and are able to refer patients to the appropriate medical service, whether that means passing them on internally - at other times it is necessary to refer them to another local health service.Read More
